Force-free training means no shock, no pain, no fear, no physical force, no physical molding, no compulsion based training methods. As a professional member of APDT Australia and PPGA, I only train your dog using force-free, positive, reward-based methods. These methods are based in science and allow you to develop a relationship with your dog based on trust, not one based on fear.
While food treats are most commonly used as rewards, not all dogs respond to food as a reinforcer for behaviour. Some prefer praise and an ear scratch, others prefer a toy or play.
Positive reward training isn't bribery - it's a reward for a wanted behaviour which is given after the behaviour occurs. Much the same as when we go to work, we expect to be paid for the work we do.
For a training session, you won't need much at all!
* Humans should be in comfy clothes and enclosed shoes.
* Pooches will need to be wearing a standard flat or martingale collar or harness.
* A regular flat lead.
* A good supply of tasty treats
* A clicker
Clickers and treat pouches are available for purchase through Boo Magoo's.
Aversive training equipment is not permitted for any training with Boo Magoo's. This means no:
* Check (choke) chains or "obedience" collars
* Prong collars (now illegal in Queensland)
* Electronic training collars
* Aversive no-pull harnesses
* Chain leads
Retractable and bungee leads are not permitted for safety reasons.
Dogs must be fully vaccinated (age appropriate) and be registered with council to attend any training outside their home. Dogs must also be in good general health. If your dog is unwell, please contact us to reschedule your training.
Of course! Training a dog is so much easier when all members of the family are on the same page. It's also the perfect opportunity for children to learn how to interact with dogs and be respectful around other dogs outside their family.
All dogs attending training must be up-to-date with vaccinations appropriate for their age.
